Day 12 of Hope

I love art. I could look at it for hours, wondering what the artist was thinking, what they were feeling, and what they were trying to express. The beauty of the piece lies in the details, the colors chosen, the stokes made, the material used. It speaks to us and changes the meaning of the piece greatly. I recently went to the exhibit of a replica of the Sistine Chapel. I was fascinated by the feet that Michelangelo painted. Feet to me are awkward, odd, and the last thing I will look at, ever. I am appalled by feet, and will hardly touch my own except to wash them, and yet they are one of the most important parts of the body for standing, balance, and movement. I am appalled and yet I could not stop gazing at these feet. As I studied these feet, each pair was different, some were lumpy and some were smooth, some were big and some were small, some were fat and some were thin. For some reason I thought these feet were beautiful. They had perfect shading, perfect light, and delicate lines. This made me think, if we just pay attention and get the details right, we can attract people to beautiful things and change their perspective. Like I was drawn to all of the feet of the painted beings, people could be drawn to us in such positive ways. That is hope, hope for healing, hope for change, it is all in the details!
