Day 15 of Hope

I find hope in single mothers. Mothers of any kind are heroes to me, but single mothers hold a special place on the pedestal. I had a recent conversation with a friend. A friend who did not have supportive parents and was all alone. A friend that could not take their child to the grandparents, or call her mom when her child had a fever, vomiting, the medicine from the doctor wasn't working, and she was terrified. She could not rely on anyone to help pay for school fees and after school programs, but each child is expected to do that and there is very few resources for single mothers above a certain pay grade. She spoke of how she was traumatized from the fear she experienced rushing from work to pick up her child because if there was a fee if she was even 5 minutes late, and traffic here slows everything down. I thought of all the single moms who don't have positive male role models for their little boys to admire or want to be like, and the struggles they face. I thought of the single moms, who can't be there physically for their children because they are trying to provide for them, and rely on other people to keep them and hope that they are teaching them good ways and habits. I continued to think of all the single mothers that are scared and alone in this world, but still make the effort every day to feed and clothe their children, as well as, give them some sort of joyful childhood while working two or three jobs to make ends meet. I thought of the hope and love they show every morning just by waking up and deciding to do it all over again. Now that is hope!
